The AIDA Women’s Intervarsity Debating Championship is Australia’s premiere all female debating tournament. Designed to develop the skills of women debaters, particularly those who would not normally be selected for an Intervarsity competition, the Championship attracts delegates from all over Australia, and occasionally from overseas.  The Women’s Intervarsity is usually hosted by an Australian University, around late August early September.
 
About Women’s

The Women’s Championship comprises at least 5 preliminary rounds of debate, followed by a final series contested by the eight highest ranked teams at the conclusion of the preliminary rounds. The competition also includes training seminars, exhibition debates, and guest lectures or seminars with eminent women.
 
The aims of the Women’s Championship are to

• to encourage friendly informal competition amongst women debaters
• to provide women debaters who would not normally be selected for an Intervarsity competition with the opportunity to compete with other women debaters from other universities.
• to provide an opportunity for experienced women debaters to pass on their expertise by adjudicating at the tournament.
• to encourage participation from universities not already participating.

Style of Debate

The Women’s Championship is conducted in British Parliamentary style, to give women debaters experience in the style used at the World Universities Debating Championships.
